Government of Punjab Logo: ‘Rs 300m for uplift of mines and minerals’: Mines Minister Punjab
PROVINCIAL Minister for Mines and Minerals Punjab Raja Riaz Ahmad has said Rs. 300 million is being spent on the development of mines & minerals sector in Punjab during the current fiscal year.
He was addressing a seminar on the topic of Mines Sector’s Development on Wednesday.
Raja Riaz said that of the 20 development projects, 13 were ongoing schemes while rest of the seven were new projects which aimed at exploring the vital minerals in Punjab and facilitate the mines workers.
Giving a breakup of the project, Raja Riaz said that Rs. 18 million was being utilized for prospecting and exploration of coal deposits in Central Salt Range through geo-technical investigation and drilling at Kalar Kahar Chakwal, Rs. 32 million for Coal Prospecting Investigation Scheme at Khushab, Rs. 50 million for development of physical infrastructure and provision of electricity in mining areas of Khushab district and Rs. 69 million for construction and improvement of eight km road in minerals’ rich area in Silanwali, Sargodha.
Senior Minister Raja Riaz further said that efforts were underway to improve the living condition of mines workers by providing healthcare to them and arranging education facilities for their children.
The function was also addressed by mines workers and human rights activists who presented various proposals for the development of mineral sector of the province.
